Sunset and Saturn

Hi everyone! Hope you all are having a good evening. :) I know I'm a little late with posting this this Wednesday, but my week has been so busy for me, and I almost forgot it was my day to post. So that's why I'm posting this at like 11pm. I thought I'd share one of my favorite songs at the moment and some photos I took at sunset with you all. Sunsets are so gorgeous in my eyes. I used to rarely watch the sun set, but after watching it set on the beach a few months ago, I've found that it is truly a lovely thing to watch. Everything is so vibrant and beautiful. It almost looks like you can see a piece a heaven opening up near the sun.  Isn't it amazing to be able to witness all the beauty God created around us?

You taught me the courage of stars before you left.
How light carries on endlessly, even after death.
With shortness of breath, you explained the infinite.
How rare and beautiful it is to even exist.

I couldn’t help but ask
For you to say it all again.
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen.
I’d give anything to hear
You say it one more time,
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes.

I couldn’t help but ask
For you to say it all again.
I tried to write it down
But I could never find a pen.
I’d give anything to hear
You say it one more time,
That the universe was made
Just to be seen by my eyes.

With shortness of breath, I’ll explain the infinite
How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist.

Sorry for sneaking in yet another "Sleeping At Last" song, but seriously, guys. Their music takes my breath away every time.

4 Tips for Self Discipline During School

Going back to school after summer vacation can be really hard.  So much self discipline is needed (espcially for those with school at home) and so much of that discipline dissappears during the summer months.  I'm here to give you some tips that you may or may not have heard before, that can help you help yourself keep on track.

(Excuse the watermark-- I had used this picture of mine on my blog as well and was too pressed for time to take it off :)

4 Tips for Self Discipline During School
  1. Time yourself and pace yourself.  I cannot stress how much this has already helped me with being productive.  If you start the day by picking out a random subject and going with it until your brain feels like mush, more time was wasted than learning was done.  What I like to do is begin my day with either music practice or some easy reading.  This way I don't tire super quickly, and from there I ease into more time consuming projects.  However, whenever I start a larger project I set either an easily achievable goal or a time limit.  This way I never end up running off to do something else (non-school related).  Remember, switch up your subjects every hour or two.
  2. Try and delve into each subject each day.  I have found that this helps me to retain all the information so much better, and also helps with the time management part.  Especially with learning languages or insturments (and obviously with math even though it may be dreaded), this can help you to remember to practice playing your instrument, go through those french flashcards, or do those 25 math problems.
  3. Take some breaks.  Remember to take breaks, however, make sure they don't take up the rest of the day.  For me, going onto the internet for my break is bad news.  I usually end up wasting so much time during my "break", and also find it harder to focus afterward.  Maybe make your self a snack, or drink a glass of water and check instagram or something.  This way you have something to do that takes a small amount of time, but still is not school related.
  4. Write down study goals.  I never used to do this, and started recently.  I found that writing down specific things to do that day for certain classes helps me to complete step 1 (Timing and Pacing yourself).  An example would be to write "Read pages 217-230 of Chemistry", or "Complete Excercises 1a-15c of Spanish Homework"

I really hope these tips help you this year to study better and become more efficient with your homework!  What are your Favorite things to help you study?

Hey everyone!
I'm super sorry that this blog has been looking a bit bear lately. Me and my fellow "Hand in Hand" members have all had such a busy summer (and year really), but were excited to start blogging on here again. I've been talking with our group and we thought that we could have an audition of sorts to see if anyone else wants to join "Hand in Hand" once we have our post scheduling organized. I'll do a separate post on auditioning later, so if you're interest, keep your eyes peeled. ;) We also thought that maybe by adding some new types of posts (like diy, photography, fashion, recipes, etc.) could make our blog more fun and relatable. What do you want to see us post more of? :)
Annnyyyyyyyways. Back to the actual subject of this post:
So, since school has started for a lot of us, I thought I would put together a little playlist of some of my fave songs that have really been helping me through the school year. I love how all the songs are poetic and appropriate (which is a major plus). All of this music is so calming and enchanting --perfect to listen to when you're having a stressful day. I just started (home)school this week, and I'm actually really enjoying it so far. Even though I miss all the free time I've had during my summer break, it's nice to get back to the groove of things. Okay, enough rambling from me. Go ahead and listen to some awesome music!

On Striving for Perfection

As humans we all strive.  We strive for peace.  We strive for prosperity.  We strive to be better.  We strive to love better.

     We strive for perfection.

This striving is eternal, and no matter what we do, nothing can satisfy it except for faith.  Faith that Christ has saved us.  Faith that God sent him to do so.  And Faith that we are totally righteous in his sight if we accept his gift of righteousness through salvation.

This faith however does not come easily.

No matter what, we have a longing for perfection, that without Christ, will never be fulfilled.  Often we care more about outword appearances that those inside, and because of this, our inside begins to rot.

We are like fruit, never to be read by our outward appearances, because too often the fruit which looks lovely on the outside, is deadly poisonous on the inside.

I have found this to be so true with friends.  Especially those whom we seem to get along with so well, and yet when something goes wrong, trust fails, and the friendship falls apart.  Yet on the other hand, there are those who you think you would never become as close friends with because of some prior notion or pre-judgement, and the next thing you know, they are continually by your side.

     Laughing. Talking. Caring. Loving.

Still, we believe all the lies told to us: lies about perfection, and meaningless objects making us greater.  We cast out what we have and chase after those things: things that will only make us hunger more for meaning in meaningless things.

Paul points out in his letter to the Phillipians that, "Not that I have already obtained this [perfection]... but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own."

Switchfoot, one of my favoritest (yes, favoritest) bands ever has a song called Blinding Light, which like all of their songs, is so encouraging.  Blinding Light, however, speaks to this generation: the generation being told all the lies about perfection and meaning.

Here is Blinding Light.  Below, you can find a bit of the lyrics.

Hey girl, be yourself now
Don't believe what they told you to
Hey girl, be yourself now
Your skin's more than a pin-up suit
Hey girl, don't conform now
No one else's got soul like you
Hey girl, you're a strong one
But none of us are bulletproof

Deep down there's a hope inside
You got wings but you're scared to fly
Wake up, wake up

We don't have to judge people from their outside; We don't have to judge ourselves either.  Instead, we must choose where we want perfection, and Strive for the inside beauty God has given each and every human.  A perfection which cannot be taken away.

Busy Times vs. Quiet Times

For years I had been struggling to fit my devotions into my day, but so many times I would never "get time".  I thought so much about how if I just had a little more time in the morning- Then I would have time to do my devotions.  However, I found that I was going about my quiet time with Jesus the wrong way.  I had switched my time priorities and been thinking of how my devotions would fit in my schedule, instead of how my schedule could fit into my day as a daughter of Christ.  One other point I had is that a devotion does not have to be some huge elaborate ceremonial practice.  Instead it could be as simple as reading a couple verses (or even just one verse) and writing down your thoughts on it.  What you liked about it, what you didn't understand, etc.  I still struggle with taking my time with God in the morning- The devil brings so much to our attention.  Things which we think will only take a minute, and end up taking so much more.  However, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Phillipians 4:13).  He can help us to appreciate and love to read his word more than all the distractions the world can give us.

I'm not perfect...not even close.

For a perfectionist like myself, those words are hard to swallow. I want to do everything perfectly and absolutely positively never fail. Truth is, is that it's impossible to be perfect. I'm only human. I'm a forgetful clumsy adolescent. It's devastating when I get a bad grade or do something wrong because I always try to do my very best, but sometimes that's not good enough.
There is only one person who lived on this earth who is truly perfect. Jesus. Even though we're weak and broken he picks up the shattered pieces of ourselves and puts us back together again. He carries our burdens so that we can be free. Even though we make mistakes, he always forgives us and loves us.
Isn't that a beautiful thing? A savior that will never let us down and will always love us now and forever.

We are perfect in his eyes. <3
